trapped in the (photocopier) closet
I've spent much of the past few days in a very small space making photocopies, an activity that can be difficult to explain to people. Why did I have to back out of seeing a movie on Friday night...I needed to photocopy a ream of paper. Photocopies of photocopies of photocopies in an endless cycle of office equipment feedback. Or it appears endless right now, the 400+ pages I have barely amount to 40 seconds, which seems like an obscenely slow process to me. But this is a consistent theme in my creative process, which often breaks down to approximately 5 percent creative work, 20 percent setup, 70 percent human machine and 5 percent zoning out. This heavy amount of mindless, repetitive process often means that I don't realize that a choice needs to be made until it's too late. Hence the zoning out time: essential.
